Siddharth Law College

Siddharth Law College, Gandhinagar, was established in 1990 by the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Education Society to promote socio-legal awareness and vigilance among rural communities regarding their constitutional and human rights, and to provide legal education opportunities to deserving students—particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.

Late Justice Vinubhai H. Bhairavia, former Judge of the Gujarat and Bombay High Courts and Founder-Managing Trustee of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Education Society, was deeply committed to the educational and socio-economic upliftment of underprivileged communities. His associates, including Shri Advocate Ghanshyambhai H. Amin and Shri Shreyanshbhai S. Shah, also shared and advanced this commitment to education and social justice. As a result of this vision, two law colleges were founded—one in Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat, and another in Kamrej (Surat) to nurture legal consciousness and ensure justice reaches all sections of society.

The foundation stone of the college building was laid by His Excellency Shri K. R. Narayanan, then the Vice President of India. The building was later inaugurated by His Excellency Shri K. R. Narayanan, then President of India, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Ram Jethmalani, then Union Law Minister, and Shri L. K. Advani, then Union Minister of Home Affairs.

Since its inception, the college has rendered invaluable service in the field of legal education and Legal Services, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the legal fraternity in Gujarat. With over three and a half decades of academic excellence, it is the only three-year Grant-in-Aid Law College in the capital city of Gujarat. The institution has a goal of imparting quality-based legal education to the Society at large, including weaker sections of urban & rural areas, Government Employees, and those who are not getting the opportunity to take legal education.

Strategically located in Gandhinagar, one of India’s planned and economically progressive cities, the college benefits from a vibrant academic, administrative, and industrial ecosystem. The State legislature and various government and administrative offices are situated here. It is home to major hubs such as GIDC, Infocity, and Gift City, hosting leading IT companies, banking and financial institutions, multinational enterprises, and industries. The Government of Gujarat has developed Gandhinagar as a prominent knowledge corridor housing institutions across all academic disciplines, including several national and international institutes of repute. Gandhinagar’s education level is the highest in Gujarat. And in the last few years, there has been a strong push by colleges and universities to become innovative and entrepreneurial and develop academic-industrial collaboration and research culture.

Gandhinagar has a robust judicial infrastructure, including the District and Sessions Court, Taluka courts at Kalol, Degham, and Mansa. Gujarat High Court is located just 20km away from Gandhinagar.

The institution is affiliated with Gujarat University and has been covered under Grant-in-Aid scheme since 1996. It has approval of affiliation from the Bar Council of India since 1992. It is approved under Section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act. The college has completed two cycles of NAAC accreditation and has been accredited with a ‘B’ Grade in both. Currently, it is preparing for the third cycle of accreditation.

The college strictly adheres to and implements all rules and regulations prescribed by the Bar Council of India, UGC, Gujarat University, the Higher Education Department, the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG), and the Government of Gujarat.
